Dating or Viability Scan
When can this scan be done:
7 – 11 weeks
The aims of the scan:
- To determine if the pregnancy is viable;
- To diagnose multiple pregnancies. Approximately 2% of natural conceptions and 10% of assisted conceptions result in multiple pregnancies;
- To determine the location of the pregnancy (in the womb or in the tubes outside the womb);
- To date the pregnancy accurately and determine the estimated due date (EDD);
- To correctly time the next scans.
